ASSESSMENT OF WOMEN INVOLVEMENT IN THE PROCESSING AND MARKETING OF FISH AND FISH PRODUCTS: IMPROVED TECHNOLOGY IMPERATIVE

ABSTRACT
This study examined the processing and marketing of aquatic, animal resources with particular reference to fish and fish products. The study highlighted the various techniques of collecting these animals, processing them and marketing the finished products. Majorly, the men do the harvesting while the women do the processing and marketing. In the course of this study, a well-structured questionnaire was designed and administered to selected women involved in these activities. Results from the study showed that fewer women were involved in harvesting while majority of the women do the processing and marketing of the fishes and their products. It was also revealed that majority of the women fall between the age brackets of 25-54 years. The married women constituted 59% of the total work force while the unmarried accounted for 16% and the widows formed 12.7%. Results also showed that the annual economic benefit accruable from this business is valued between #400,000 and #500,000 per marketer, which in most cases constituted about 75% of the Gross Annual Income of such communities. The study evaluated the various challenges faced by these women especially in the areas of collection, processing and marketing of these resources and their finished products, some of which include inaccessibility to suitable and modern collecting gadgets, lack of modern equipments for processing and preservation of both the raw and finished products, financial constraints especially in securing loans from banks and cooperatives, difficulty in getting their products transported from rural to urban cities due to deplorable state of the roads and so on. The study proffered useful suggestions which will help in ameliorating some of the hardships encountered by both men and women involved in this venture.

ABSTRACT
The deterioration of the natural environment – the atmosphere, water bodies, soil and the forest – is a major challenge in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria as a result of the exploration of Crude Oil. This has given birth to many other associated problems in the area, problems like Unemployment, Youth Militancy, Resource Control agitation, etc. can all be traced back to Crude Oil exploration. Land is basic to human activities and vital for her existence; however pressure on the natural environment, to include the land, atmosphere, water bodies and the forest in Niger-Delta region has led to crises that has threatened the peace of the region and the nation as a whole in the past and presently. This paper reviews the problems of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta region which has given rise to the emergence of Militants in the area and how this has been a clog in the wheel of progress of National unity in Nigeria. The paper also suggests ways on how the environment can be protected from deteriorating even while exploration of crude oil (natural resource) is on-going and how the presence of the Natural Resource in the region can advance unity in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT
The importance of quality in the nation’s educational programs cannot be over emphasized. The educational administrators in all the programmes must make sure that, their qualities are in line with the objective/goals of the National Policy on Education so that their outputs can contribute meaningfully to national development. To ensure this, the Provosts, Deans and Heads of Departments in all the Colleges of Education must be awakened to their responsibilities. This paper examines the roles of School Administrators in the Colleges of Education. Some recommendations were made-The government should increase funding in colleges of education. There should be standard in admission requirement, students should be placed in their areas of interest.

THE CALL FOR INDIGENOUS PROVERBS AS AN INSTRUMENT FOR PROMOTION OF NATIONAL UNITY

ABSTRACT
Every human society is endowed with a divine cultural heritage that determines how its inhabitants behave and relate with one another. This in turn promotes harmonious living culminating in societal unity. Societal norms, ethics and values embedded in culture are promoted by language particularly, indigenous languages. It is believed that the inculcation of cultural norms, ethics and values into individual through indigenous language right from the family level, community, tribes to national levels plays significant roles in the promotion of national unity. However, the indigenous languages that are supposed to promote cultural values and heritage towards achieving national unity are not given adequate attention as it is done to foreign language that is totally alien to Nigerian culture. This paper, therefore, calls for the use of indigenous proverbs as instrument of cultural heritage germane to the promotion of national unity. Qualitative design was employed for the study, three research questions were raised. A mini study was conducted among 6 lecturers each from the school of languages of the two Colleges of Education that exist in Oyo. (twelve lecturers), another six community elders, two each from Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba communities were purposively selected, while, two palace Chiefs were also considered from Alaafin of Oyo’s palace. The 20 respondents were also interviewed on the role of indigenous proverbs in promoting cultural heritage for national unity. It was unanimously agreed that if proverbs such as those given to illustrate unity are given priority in every household, they will promote positive attitudinal changes that will enhance people’s attitude towards unity at homes, villages, communities, states and the entire nations irrespective of our differences. It was recommended among others that government, stakeholders on education, parents, and guardians are to embrace a policy that will enhance the use indigenous languages both at home and the general public such that the beautiful values in cultures will be exposed to individual in order to promote and actualize unity in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT
Language and its communication are one of the major ways through which the different peoples of the world are identified and known for. A people who lose their language have lost their identity. Currently, the Igbo people of Nigeria seem to be having glitches transmitting Igbo to their children. The Igbo language is among the three major Nigerian languages to be studied in schools in Nigeria, the others are Hausa and Yoruba languages. This implies that Igbo language occupies a very important linguistic position in Nigeria, hence the federal government approved it. Unfortunately, Igbo language students have been performing poorly in the senior secondary school certificate examinations. This ugly situation has continued to be of great concern to those crusading for Igbo language growth. This study therefore, investigated the factors affecting teaching and learning of Igbo language among young Igbo people in Ogun State, Nigeria. Igbo language spoken in the southeastern Nigeria was by over 20 million people. The paper examines how far this UNESCO prediction affects the language and the people and to what extent the prediction is taken to be a fact or a tale given the status of the language, and the people’s attitude to their language. However, the Government policy on the use, teaching and learning of Igbo languages is bedeviled with a lot of problems which range from inadequate materials and personnel to handle the teaching of the recommended ones in the policy to socio – political problems initiated and propagated by the various groups in the country. It is thus recommended that the Nigerian Language teacher educators should on their part show more commitment to the teaching and learning of Nigerian languages.

The Influence of Cognitive Load on the Framing Effect of Risk Decision-making of Basketball Players

ABSTRACT
This study set up number strings of different lengths as memory tasks to form high and low cognitive loads, which simulated real stress situations. And the study explored the regularity and differences of framing effect of basketball players under different situations of high cognitive load and low cognitive load. 51 basketball players participated in this study, and the subjects completed three groups of experiments. In the experiments, the subjects were asked to complete the basketball decision-making tasks. The study showed that there was framing effect of risk decision-making in basketball. And the type of framework affected the risk preference of basketball players. Cognitive load affected the framing effect of risk decision-making of basketball players. Under the low cognitive load condition, framing effect was significant, while under the high cognitive load condition, framing effect was weakened. The framing effect in basketball weakened as the players’ cognitive effort increased. Besides, the framing effect was not only the result of heuristic system, but also the analytical system played an important role in the processing of framework information.

ABSTRACT
Over the past decades, there has been history of pandemic across the globe, such as Asian flu, Cholera, Ebola, and small pox, but none has been this devastating, so terrifying and holding the entire world to a standstill like covid-19.The first case of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Nigeria was announced on the 27th February, 2020 when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive to the virus caused by SARS-CoV-2. On the 9th March,2020 a second case was reported in Ewekoro, Ogun State to be a Nigerian who had a contact with the first victim.The survey research method was adopted for the study through collection of secondary data from the internet search engine. As each day passes, the COVID-19 situation becomes horrific as the number of casualties increases. A virus that seemed so insignificant spiraled quickly out of control and suddenly schools were closed down for months, workers resorted to working from homes except for the essential workers, borders were closed, airlines shutdown, sports facilities closed and mandatory lockdown became eminent in Lagos State,Ogun state and the FCT. As the world proceeded normally and calmly, things suddenly became uncontrollable. Withincouples of days, events that seemed to be definite became postponed or fully terminated, for example the national sports festival that was to hold in Edo state Nigeria was put off, also all preparations for the much awaited Nigerian Universities Games{NUGA}was immediately put on hold.

STUDENTS’ ATTITUDINAL DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS MATHEMATICS CONCEPTS IN ODEDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT
Mathematics is important in achieving success among students in Nigeria and within any sector/system. This study investigates students’ attitudinal development towards mathematics concepts in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data collected. The study was conducted using one hundred and fifty (150) Senior Secondary School (SSS3) students who were randomly selected across the Local Government area of Ogun State. The instrument was validated by two experts in the field. The result showed that 36.0% of the respondents were above 19 years of age, while above half (54.7%) of the respondents were male and majority (62.7% and 34.0%) of the respondents acknowledged to be practicing Christians and Islamic religion. Majority (65.3%) of the students’ has positive attitude towards mathematics as a subjects. Student’s t-test shows that there was no significant difference between the attitude of male and female students’ toward mathematics as a subject in the study area. It is concluded that majority of secondary school students sampled have positive attitude towards mathematics and the study recommended that Mathematics seen as a profession only meant for a male domain should be discouraged by parents, teachers and counsellors in secondary schools and encourage female in pursuing career in mathematics.
