ABSTRACT
Nigeria is a nation of many ethnic groups with diverse cultures. Efforts at integrating these ethnic groups and cultures yield minimal
result as evident in the series of ethno-religious crises with attendant loss of lives and properties. Education, Social Studies Education
to be precise has been seen as a panacea to all forms of discrimination, intolerances and ethno-religious conflicts in Nigeria. Though, the
subject is not without its own challenges weakening its strength. This is the reason this article looks into these challenges and ways out in
order to strengthen the subject in achieving its objectives. The paper uses analytical approach as its research method with secondary sources
of obtaining data. It was discovered, among others, that the cultural and value-laden methods which promote team spirit, cooperation, tolerance
and ethnic pluralism among students in a multi-cultural class, as well as evaluation in the affective domain are rarely used in teaching and
evaluating the subject. The study therefore recommends the use of cultural and value-laden methods in teaching Social Studies, and evaluation
of its contents done using affective evaluation instruments such as observation technique, socio-metric scale, anecdotal record, interview,
among others to develop and sustain in students attitudinal behaviours which support ethnic pluralism, team-spirit, tolerance, peaceful
coexistence and consequently, national integration.

ABSTRACT
In traditional African societies, music is inextricably woven into the fabric of life with the mosaic of meaning that
makes up the worldviews of different communities. It is interconnected with the other arts, education and exists in
performance. Community members participate actively in the process of indigenous music like folk songs and traditional
songs sometimes referred to as ‘native song’. Information is fundamental and imperative in human activities. When people
are misinformed or under-informed, catastrophe happens. Diabetes is a disease that is common to both learned and unlearned
in the society, which if people are aware of the causes, types, symptoms and probably how to manage or prevent it, the
rate at which people suffer and die through this dreaded disease would have been reduced. Therefore, this work is set
to inform the communities of Ebiraland, the causes, types, symptoms and prevention of diabetes through the use of folk
music (‘native songs’) as a bait of awareness campaign. Survey research design method has been chosen as a best method
for the study. At the end of this study the communities of Ebiraland would have been informed and sensitized on the
causes symptoms and prevention and cure of diabetes in the land. The gap on how to contact hospital and medical
practitioner on this particular ailment would have been catered for through this study. Also, it would have served
as an eye opener to many around the community on how to take care and prevent diseases, whenever they have health
related challenges.

ABSTRACT
The main objective of the study was to carry out an exploratory factorial analysis of science teachers’ perceptions of perceived role of media in
teaching in some selected secondary schools in delta state. The study was guided by four specific objectives and three research questions .The Sample
was 140 teachers from private and public secondary school in Warri-south and Uvwie Local government areas which was selected by purposive and simple
random sampling procedure. Frequencies, mean, standard deviation, Interval of Standard Deviation from Mean (ISDM) and exploratory factor analysis were
utilized in the study. The 2 factors had Cronbach Alpha reliabilities of (0.84 - 0.92). The data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. The sex distribution
therefore has about 51.5% respondents as female and the remaining 48.5% as male. While respondent from private school represents about 85 or 60.7% and more
than 52.90% of the teachers are having between 1 - 10years teaching experience. On teacher’s responses on the role of media in teaching and learning the
mean perception ranged from 2.4357 to 3.6714 .The result also showed that the medium level of response on media has been most frequently with a frequency
of 66 and 47.1%. The results regarding the factor analysis for this measure yielded a two factor solution with eigenvalues greater than 1.0 with a total
variance of 47.597% explained of the total variance. KMO was 0.860 which indicates sufficiency of intercorrelations while the Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity
was significant (Chi square=1552.327, p< 0.000). This study was carried out to establish the factors of teacher perception on the role of media in the
learning process. Two factor themes occurred through data collection and analysis factors that were studied include media as a substitute and teacher
centred. Based on this finding, the results of this study have implications for the schools to take into consideration this perception of teachers
since they are the implementer of education policies.

ABSTRACT
This research is out to assess security compliance of Nigerians especially in the north-central part of the country in the last general election. The researcher
employs Survey research design in the study. The population consisted of Nigerians selected in the major cities of north-central part of Nigeria and sampled opinions
of masses to examine politically motivated security issues, consequent on political leadership in Nigeria. The single stage cluster sampling and random sampling
techniques were used to select 30 sampling units in six major state capitals and 20 sampling units in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and 200 respondents that made
up of the sample size. Founding shows that insecurity of lives and properties has assumed a crisis dimension in Nigerian politicking especially during election period.
It therefore concludes that the citizens need not to die or loose properties at the cost of participating in the nation’s electoral process. With sizeable election-based
violence across the country lately witnessed in the last February/March 2019 General Elections sequel to poor level of preparedness displayed by the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), this work recommends provision of adequate logistics in security-prone areas in the north-central states to curb incidence of insecurity and
other related crises in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT
In music education, theories of learning have contributed to an understanding of how the corresponding instructional theories have caused changes in instructional practices.
These theories assist teachers in eliciting students’ learning outcomes. Theories of child development govern the construction of age appropriate for different subject matters.
These theories have contributed advances in thinking, educating and teaching the child in formal school settings. They have found acceptance and have also impacted music educators’
thoughts on how to sequence instructions in the classroom. Different emphasis on behavioural/associative, cognitive, constructivist thinking, have shaped the models used to explain
how a child learns. This study therefore, highlighted on how the music teacher in the beginners’ class (JSS 1) can use Pavlov’s associative learning theory to teach rhythm melody
using simple applausive clap which is the preferred knowledge paired with the musical notes to elicit interest in the teaching of rhythm\melody which is the non-preferred knowledge.
The study adopted descriptive survey approach in gathering information for the study. Recommendations on how the teachers can guide students (learners) in identifying and associating
the pre-existing\learned concepts or knowledge with some preferred learning variables (instructional materials) in order to elicit students’ interest towards the discovery or
acquisition of new concepts\knowledge; provision of conducive learning environment and engagement of the students in creative assignments were made.

ABSTRACT
Relief has a strong influence on soil development and soil along a slope has been noticed to vary in both physical and
chemical properties. Slope position influences soil properties because of erosional and depositional processes. The
study examines the organic carbon and nitrogen content of soil under rubber plantation of varying ages as influenced
by slope positions in Ondo state. Soil samples were taken at the depth of 0-15cm along four different transects
considering different slope positions (upper, middle and lower). The rubber plantations were of ages 6, 15 and 22.
The sampled soils were analyzed considering their particle size distribution, organic carbon and nitrogen content.
Results of the finding were statistically analyzed using ANOVA. It was revealed that there are differences in the content
of organic carbon and nitrogen along the slope positions. Soil organic carbon and nitrogen content were highest at
the lower slope positions which were attributed to the effect of relief, the upper slope positions had lower content due
to the impact of erosion likewise the middle slope positions of the rubber plantations. With increase in age of rubber
at the upper slope positions, organic carbon and nitrogen content reduced. However, it was recommended that
management practices such as terracing and land leveling should be employed to reduce the impact of relief on soil
properties, fertilizer application should be based on the different slope positions and proper soil survey should be
done before any agricultural practice takes place on sloping areas to ascertain the suitability of such areas for
plantation.

ABSTRACT
Reading deficiency of primary school pupils has remained a pointer to the failure of primary school
teachers at inculcating permanent literacy and ability to communicate effectively. The first objective of this
level of education has not been realised, thus has become a thing of shame and a source of concern for all.
Studies have revealed an alarming statistics of pupils in primary four, primary five and even primary six
who cannot read and write which are the hallmark of literacy acquisition. Primary school as the foundation
of other levels of education has been saddled with the responsibility of laying sound basic education. Thus
far, this duty has been unachievable. This tide has continued to occur and reoccur as years go by. This
anomaly hinders economic growth and development that can lead to Africa’s transformation. The cause of
this malady has been placed at the door step of teachers’ methodology which does not take into cognizance
the nature of children at this level and how they learn. This paper therefore, traces the history of primary
education in Nigeria. It discusses how children at this level learn, causes of literacy problems and its
attendant effects on the social context of Nigeria in particular and Africa in general. It also considers
teachers-centred methodology. The effect of pupil-centred activity based methods that could influence the
achievement of pupils in reading and comprehending were also explored. Recommendations were then
made and if followed, primary school pupils and primary school leavers would be able to read, write and
communicate effectively to bring out creative thinking to give expressions to abstract thought and gain
insight into creativity and innovations for social and economic development in Nigeria in particular and
Africa as a whole.

ABSTRACT
The development of a nation rests on its citizens. Education is seen as the tool for individual and national development. Consequently, the acquisition of knowledge
could be truncated if the school instructional decision is defective. This research therefore investigated “effective instructional decision in secondary school: a
tool for national development”. Two research questions were raised and answered to guide the study. The study employed the descriptive survey research design, the
sample constituted two thousand and thirty (2,030) SSS 2 financial accounting students in public secondary schools in South-West, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling was
adopted. Ballot was used in selecting three states out of the six states in the South-West, Nigeria. Sample was taken from the selected three states using stratified
sampling technique and schools were selected at random from the local governments. Purposive and random sampling was applied in taking samples from the different
schools within each local government area because the study is applicable to only students of financial accounting. Questionnaire was the instrument used to collect
data and analysis was done using mean and standard deviation. The result revealed among others that having to learn financial accounting in the afternoon is an
instructional decision affecting learning. Conclusively, there are certain instructional decisions that affect the acquisition of knowledge. It is therefore
recommended that teachers and school administrators should take good instructional decision that will not jeopardize the academic development of the child and
the nation’s development.
